The Church of Nice Plans to Defy Its Master on Chinese Flu Restrictions

Edit: While grocery stores, liquor stores and big box department stores have been packing people in for months, Minnesota Catholic Churches will remain mostly empty according to the Progressive Governor's easing of restrictions. That Catholic bishops will continue to do what they're told, or pro-actively serve the power of the state, even when it adversely impacts their own authority and the sanctity of their flocks, is practically guaranteed. The Catholic Church has a habit of losing in conflicts like these.  Catholic Bishops are pleading with the governor for the right of public worship much as they have acquiesced for decades ceding areas to the consensus which should have been bastions of Catholic authority ever since the fateful days of Vatican II.  The Catholic hierarchy is  programmed to lose in all of its conflicts with the state and cultural leaders.

From the Catholic Bishops of Minnesota
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Catholic Bishops of Minnesota, along with many people of faith [cringe], were disappointed in Governor Walz’s May 13 announcement that he would end the Stay-at-Home order to allow more commerce but prohibit religious gatherings of more than ten people. We have attempted to work collaboratively with the Walz Administration up to this time, seeking the guidance of the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Public Health to help us strengthen our specific safety protocols based on the statewide plan. Along with some Lutheran colleagues, we submitted a plan to the Governor on May 8 that detailed the sanitation measures we would take and proposed a cap on occupancy limited to 33 percent of building capacity. Our proposed protocols are based on the work undertaken by a group of national medical experts and theologians, the Thomistic Institute, and they are consistent with the practices that have already been put in place in many dioceses throughout the United States. We continue our willingness to make any necessary adjustments to our safety protocols upon review.

The Life of Faith is Essential

Edit: if there's a perception on the part of the godless elected officials and lab coats that the public practice of religion isn't essential, that's a perception that has been cultivated for decades by Church officials themselves for one thing, by making many of the prescriptions of Catholic religion optional for "Catholics in good standing" for years, even before the Council. This malaise touches everything from salvation (Non-Catholics can be saved) holy days of obligations, days of fast and abstinence, matrimony, penance and the reception of Communion. (There are even Mass options that allow for the godless humanist to feel more at home at a Catholic Mass, if Catholic Mass it is.)  In some cases, the actual practice of Catholicism is opposed by those who have taken oaths to protect it. Witness Dr. E.Michael Jones' public witness in opposition to abortion that led to him being fired from his job.

Given our willingness to coordinate with the Governor, we are especially disappointed that his most recent order (20-56) does not address both the vital importance that faith plays in the lives of Americans, especially in this time of pandemic, and the fundamental religious freedom possessed by houses of worship that allows our country to thrive. The Governor’s remarks today further underscored a failure to appreciate the role of our Church and other faith groups in serving the community. The human cost to this pandemic has been extraordinary, not just in terms of lives lost to the virus but the rapidly growing problems of job loss, depression, crime and violence, and substance abuse. As Pope Francis has said, the church must be a field hospital, ministering to all, but especially the poor and vulnerable. He has cautioned that overly drastic measures that limit church life will have a disproportionate impact on “the little ones” and those who have no one to rely on.

The bishops of Minnesota are united in our conviction that we can safely resume public Masses in accordance with both our religious duties and with accepted public health and safety standards. We can worship in a way that reflects both the love of God and the love of our neighbors (cf. Mark 12:30-31). Therefore, we are giving our parishes permission for the resumption of the public celebration of Mass on Tuesday, May 26, which will give us time to be ready for the celebration of Pentecost on May 31. Parishes will be required to follow the strict protocols we have published for sanitation and social distancing and will have to limit attendance to one-third of the seating capacity of the church. No one will be obliged to attend, as the bishops of Minnesota will continue to dispense from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass.

Putin With Pope Francis --- Enemies of the Church Desecrate Church in Rome "Till the Last Pope is Overthrown"

(Vatican / Moscow) On Monday, Pope Francis receives Russian President Vladimir Putin in audience. According to the official release to meeting by the Holy See, the situation in the Middle East and the Christians there was the focus for the 35-minute conversation, which took place in a "cordial atmosphere".  In addition to the help and protection of the Syrian Christians from their Islamist rivals, the Catholic community in Russia  was a topic of conversation. Unlike Western leaders, Putin had no difficulty expressing gestures of personal piety. During the meeting,  a church desecration took place in Rome by left-wing extremists who protested "against Putin and the Church."
The Russian head of state did not extend a future invitation. The Kremlin will not anticipate the Moscow Patriarchate on this issue."Conversations for a meeting between the Patriarch and the Pope are in progress," said Metropolitan Hilarion  a few days ago in Rome. A third country was envisaged as a  place of meeting.

Gestures of Piety From  Russia's President Putin

Pope Francis gave Putin a mosaic that shows the Vatican Gardens. Putin gave the Pope an icon of the Mother of God of Vladimir. When the icon was presented to the Pope, it was a personal gesture of the Russian President, who crossed himself at the sight of the orthodox type icon.  Pope Francis, surprised by this gesture, followed the example of piety and crossed himself also in the Latin way,
Putin bowed before the icon and kissed the sacred representation. Even this gesture of pious affection was followed by  Pope Francis. Gestures that astonished the head of state of Russia in particular. Firstly, because one of the Russian leader had lived in the atheism of "real socialism" for a long time. On the other hand, because Western heads of state and head of government in the name of an alleged "neutrality" avoid  any personal commitment while in office. Putin was not afraid to express his faith in Christ and the All Holy  Theotokos in a public gesture of personal piety.
"Maybe the Pope could take one example, and kneel a little more before the Blessed Sacrament (during the Holy Mass and in Eucharistic Adoration) instead of standing," wrote Messa in Latino .

Sacrilege in Rome During Presidential Visit

During the meeting between Putin and Pope Francis, there was a serious act of blasphemy. Left-wing extremists of the Autonomous Scene broke into a church, unfurled a polemical and obscene banner, portrayed in the style of the  extreme left  political activists of Pussy Riot, and demanded their release.
The church desecration underlines that the extremists are not merely making  a political protest against Putin, but also specifically to express hostility to Christians. The fact that an Orthodox church in Moscow or a Catholic church was indiscriminately  desecrated a Rome shows definite hatred against Christianity. While in Russia, the desecration of a church is a criminal offense, the perpetrators in the west, so also in Rome, are hoping for "mild" judges who "understand" the show of "youthful" political zeal and the smashing of statues of Mary, the destruction of crosses as "too small" to cover those half-naked appearances in churches and obscene banners for prosecution.

Fight "Until the Last Pope, the Last Tsar and the Last King is Overthrown"

For blasphemous "act of protest" in Rome, the left-wing extremists wrote on her blog: "And let's not forget the role of the church, which measures interspersed with which the freedom of women and LGBTQI person to be circumcised. We are therefore convinced that the Holy Roman Church and the Orthodox Church find points of contact: an agreement between the Patriarchs at the expense of our body is always found. We will not stop and continue the fight until the last pope, the last Tsar and the last king is overthrown."

New President of Zambia Promises to Follow the Ten Commandments

Edit: What usually happens to secular leaders who are devoted Catholics?
Ecuador's President Slain like the Lamb

LUSAKA (AFP) - Zambia's new President Michael Sata, the first elected Catholic head of state and a devout believer, said Sunday his government would follow the tenets of the 10 Biblical Commandments.

"This government will be governed on the 10 Commandments. Thou shall not steal, do unto others as you would like them to do unto you," Sata told parishioners at a church in Lusaka's upscale Rhodes Park district.

"For the first time this country has a Catholic president and our government will support the church," Sata said, recalling that the nation was predominantly Catholic.

German President and Vice President Receive Communion Unworthily at Papal Mass

Like two willful schoolboys the President and Vice President of the German Bundestag slipped in to unworthily receive Holy Communion. A Commentary

(kreuz.net) Did anyone notice anything unusual?

At yesterday's Papal Mass in the the Berlin Olympia Stadium, Wolfgang Thierse received Communion in the hand from Pope Benedict.

The official has been Vice President of the German Bundestag since 2005.

The CDU- President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert (62), saw the example and mirrored it. [He's been critical of priestly celibacy]

He threw his prank right in the Pope's face.

Racism as an Archetype

Lammert's ham-fisted speech before the Pope went down well in the German Bundestag.

In that speech he praised -- irrespective of the Nazi racism of recent German history -- racial enlightenment. [Kreuz means here that the Enlightenment figures were themselves racialist.]

From this he continued, leading back to -- glowingly -- "our present understanding of fundamental rights, of the inviolable worth of people and their free rights".

This criminal understanding of the "inviolability" of human worth is measured out in over 100,000 aborted people as victims every year in Germany.

Historical Cynicism

Lammert even had the impudence to put "Christians" in the shoes of Nazi persecution of the Jews, who were supposed to have "looked away or joined in, defamed, persecuted, demoralized, murdered."

Sorry, what did you say?

With the same cynicism he could have put, the Orthodox in Communism, the Buddhists during Pol Pot or the Jewish religions implication in Israeli racism, in the same shoes.

The Ham-fisted Germans Probably Wouldn't Have Done Much Better

Lammert's unintentional jester's speech even promoted the unification of the Church to the protestants by mutating it into protestantism.

Hello Lammert? Have you ever heard about the separation of Church and State?

It is not the job of the president of the Bundestag, to mix in internal Church politics as president.

For the hosts of Pope Benedict XVIth this was putting their foot in it by a fatal somersault.

But the ham-fisted Nazi-mad Germans couldn't have done any better.

Cardinal Burke Says Religion "Purifies" Politics

.- Cardinal Raymond Burke, head of the Vatican's highest court, said on Aug. 2 that without religion in society, political leaders run the risk violating the fundamental human rights of citizens.

“All nations should guarantee the free exercise of religion, which aims to protect the teaching and practice of religious faith for the sake of the common good,” said Cardinal Burke, prefect of the Apostolic Signatura.
“When reason is not purified by faith in the political realm,” he warned, “the powerful and influential of the time exercise a tyranny which violates the fundamental rights of the very people whom political leaders are called to serve.”

140th Anniversary of the Fall of Papal Rome

The Zenit Article which is cited by 'Catholicism.org' really misses the point of the wars of Italian Unification and the alleged loss of temporal power by the Papacy, almost seemingly embracing the error that says that the Papacy shouldn't have temporal power, condemned by Pius IX:

24. The Church has not the power of using force, nor has she any temporal power, direct or indirect. -- Apostolic Letter "Ad Apostolicae," Aug. 22, 1851.
[Papal Documents Online, here]

She seems to struggle a bit, understandably, with her loyalty to the Italian State and her Catholic Faith. Considering Berlusconi's hostility to the Church recently, it might be too much to hope that the conflict of interests between the Church and the State have subsided.

Australian State "Ethics" Classes Run in Opposition to Catholic Catechesis

Over 35,000 Catholics throughout NSW have signed a petition which states their support for the work of cathechists.

The petition is the latest feature of the campaign by the local Catholic Church against the State government’s suggestion that ethics class in public schools will be run in competition with traditional scriptural classes.

The Church is concerned that if the two classes are ran in competition with another, then Catholic students who chose to attend scripture would miss out on attending the ethics classes.

Jude Hennessy, the director of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine for the Wollongong diocese and co-ordinator of the campaign said: ”It is not fair they should miss this opportunity. Nor is it fair their parents should be caught in a dilemma about whether to send them to formation in their faith tradition or to choose ethics…. If ethics classes are regarded as a valuable addition, they [should] be run at a time other than during SRE time.”

Iowa Judge tells Catholic Prosecutor to remove Ashes

We think the defense attorney who made the objection would have been too adept to object, as one commentor elsewhere observed, had the prosecutor been a Jew with a yarmulke.

Where's Bill Donahue now?

The age-old question of separation of church and state played itself out in a Marshall County courtroom Wednesday.

After a lunch recess while prosecuting a trial for attempted murder, Assistant County Attorney Paul Crawford returned from lunch with ash on his forehead. He is Catholic and celebrating Ash Wednesday is something millions of people all around the world do.

Bishop Williamson Reveals the Democratic Deceit of Free Speech

Bad boy Bishop Williamson is being pelted by the press again. He's being accused of the greatest sin a modern man can commit in this age of unreason, denying the sanctity of the Jewish race and the numbers (accountancy) related to the so-called "Holocaust". In its passion for reification and easy villains, the world press has levelled its guns on one man whose life has been a singular rejection of the liberalism who's cult they adore, as he speaks out against their consensus of depravity.

We agree with Bishop Williamson on attire, is it enough that so many daughters complain of the immoral men that the behaviors that contribute to it can't rightly be castigated? We think that the editors of these propaganda organs want a nice docile population, enslaved to its lusts and caprices, who will enjoy the pillorying of one man who stands against their Orthodoxy and their frequent and unchecked deceit and malice. So much for freedom of speech and the values of "democracy". We should thank Bishop Williamson, whether we agree with him or not, for revealing this democratic deceit.

Williamson has noticed female fans wearing even shorter skirts. "Aren't there are any men left who tell their daughters, sisters, wives or mothers that this sort of outfit is only meant for the eyes of their own husbands?"

Catholicism is Now Illegal in Quebec

Seems like following Church teaching in Quebec, strangely, one of the most Catholic places in the world, can land you in some hot water.

by Brian Kelly January 28th, 2010
Douglas Farrow of Catholic Civil Rights League: The Québec policy against homophobia was released in December with introductory fanfare from Premier Jean Charest and Justice Minister Kathleen Weil, who is officially “the minister responsible for the fight against homophobia.” It diagrams a full-scale assault, to be coordinated by an inter-departmental committee, against “homophobic attitudes and behaviour patterns” and “sets out the government’s goal of removing all the obstacles” to full recognition of LGBT interests and modes of life. What is thus promulgated is no ordinary policy document, for it aims at the conversion, not merely of this or that piece of public infrastructure, but of the psychological and moral and sexual infrastructure of a generation. It is not directed at creating a situation of legal equality – that, it proudly proclaims, has already been accomplished – but at creating “a society free of prejudice with regard to sexual diversity.”

Link to SBC site... Of course, no one is telling Weil about objective scientific studies at John's Hopkins about the whether or not homosexuality is genetic or not, of course, our diversity police won't want this study to see the light of day; the politics of deviance will see to that.

Paul McHugh, a Roman Catholic and a professor of psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, said that scientific research has not established any genetic causation for homosexual orientation. When asked if his paper might appear in "The American Journal of Psychiatry", he smiled and said, "No." Americans, he said, have become such victims of the "politics of deviance" that objective scholarship is brushed aside in favor of what is deemed to be politically correct.

Equality Bill Struck Down in House of Lords

In what would have spelled greater persecution for Catholic priests and bishops, the Equality Bill was struck down by the House of Lords today. It isn't a victory for Religious Liberty, as if that were a laudable thing, but it is a temporary reprieve. Anyhow, Catholic Culture calls this a victory for religious liberty, but we'd like to hear them make a distinction between the liberty and exultation of our Mother the Church and false principle of "religious liberty".

Calgary Church Loses Charitable Status-- Against Homosexuality

CALGARY, Alberta, January 21, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has revoked the charitable status of Kings Glory Fellowship (KGF), a Christian church in Calgary. CRA cites a number of issues with KGF's application, but the decision is based, in part, on the ground that certain KGF Board members have spoken out strongly against abortion, and other moral issues.

"The members of the Board of Directors espouse strong negative views about sensitive and controversial issues, which may also be viewed as political, such as abortion, homosexuality, divorce, etc.,” wrote CRA agent Dian Prodanov in an October 29th letter.

UK Bishops say Equality Bill still a threat

Guardian

The bishops have rejected Government concessions designed to allay fears over a Bill they say could force the churches to accept women, sexually active gays, and transsexuals into the priesthood.

Ministers refused repeated requests by the Catholic and Anglican bishops over a period of months to consider an amendment to the Equality Bill that would have been acceptable to them.

But they have decided to act in the face of a protracted battle in the Lords that could result in the Bill falling as it runs out of time. They have tabled an amendment designed to reassure the churches that the Bill does not represent a threat.

Supreme Rada checks Yuschenko’s brother for being “Kiev Patriarchate” bishop

Interfax

Dnepropetrovsk, January 14, Interfax – Ukrainian deputies check information that their colleague and Ukrainian President’s brother Pyotr Yuschenko is a bishop of the self-proclaimed Kiev Patriarchate.

“Now I won’t claim that Yuschenko’s brother deputy Pyotr Yuschenko is supposedly a bishop of Sumy in Filaret’s Church (in the Kiev Patriarchate – IF) – we’re checking this information right now. But if it proves true, it’ll be a mockery,” Ukrainian MP Nestor Shufrich said in his interview to the Avtor TV.

Earlier Pyotr Yuschenko headed public organization For Local Ukraine that aims at establishing one Local Orthodox Church in the country independent from the Moscow Patriarchate. In this regard, some observers consider Pyotr Yuschenko a potential church leader.

Shufrich said the problem of “political Orthodoxy” in Ukraine “became sharp after 2005, when Yuschenko decided to subordinate Church.”

“Today they provoke schism in Orthodoxy, seize churches (we have incidents in the Chernigov Region and the Vinnitsa Region,) beat Orthodox priests belonging to the structure of His Beatitude Sabodan (Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine – IF), we shouldn’t tolerate it, it’s a field for the Criminal Code and the Criminal Law to work in,” Shufrich stressed.

Orthodox Church Saved Russia from Both Reds and Whites

In represents the latest effort of Russian nationalist activists close to the Moscow Patriarchate to promote the role of Orthodoxy in Russia, a new book on the Russian Civil War argues that the Church saved Russians from the catastrophes that would have been visited on them by any final victory of either the Reds or the Whites.

The book, “The Civil War in Russia: An Encyclopedia of a Catastrophe” (in Russian; Moscow: Sibirsky Tsiryul’nik, 2010, compiled by Dmitry Volodikhin), argues, according to a review by Pavel Svyatenkov, that “the official historiography” of that long-ago conflict is completely wrong (www.russ.ru/pole/Cerkov-po-tu-storonu-belogo-i-krasnogo).

That historiography, Svyatenkov writes, views the Civil War “through the prism of the conflict of the Reds and the Whites,” with the battle presented as one between “the central Bolshevik government in Moscow” and “numerous ‘separatists’ – the White generals Kolchak, Denikin, Yudenich and Wrangel.”

Consequently, “from the point of view of Soviet historiography as it was established under Stalin, the Bolsheviks behaved as ‘Ivan Kalitas,’ as ingatherers of the Russian lands that had fallen away.” And “therefore, the cult of empire in the post-Soviet period is not accidental – its roots are in the propaganda model of Stalinist times.”

Catholics vs Kennedies: New York Times

At last one of the pillars of Americanism is falling.

Hanging front and center inside the classroom of the grade school I attended were pictures of two men: Pope Paul VI, and John F. Kennedy, the first Roman Catholic president. Each was revered almost without question, although we were taught that one could never tell the other what to do in their separate realms.

My experience was not unique. And so it was jarring to many Catholics to hear last month of a bishop in Providence, R.I., advising a Kennedy to refrain from receiving communion because of a public policy position the congressman had advocated in Washington.

History has always been a strong subject in Catholic education, but Bishop Thomas Tobin of Providence seems to have forgotten much of his, or at least failed to learn the lessons as they applied to American democracy.

Revolutionary San Francisco will Steal 14.4 Million Dollars from Church

Socialist confiscation schemes are nothing new and now the Archdiocese of San Francisco is being held accountable for 14.4 Million Dollars by the Revolutionary Government of San Francisco. Their hostillity isn't surprising given the Catholic Church's opposition to immoral practices like homosexuality. All in all, it sounds more like the continuation of the Masonic Government ofMexico's Revolutionary Government.

It will be very interesting indeed to see what kind of steely leadership will be provided by Archbishop George Niederauer.

By Ryan Thomas Riddle

Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting is the victor in the high-stakes battle against the Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco. The church has been ordered to pay an estimated $14.4 million in transfer taxes to the city. But the victory comes on the heels of the California State Board of Equalization’s decision to slightly lower property taxes statewide.

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, the Transfer Tax Review Board voted 3-0 in favor of the Assessor’s Office, resulting in what the office is calling “the second largest transfer tax event in our city’s history.” The board decided that the Archdiocese’s extensive 2008 property transfers were taxable under the Real Property Transfer Tax Ordinance.

Ting said via phone conference that board’s decision shows that his office has been “aggressive and fairly enforcing the law.” He added that while the Assessor’s Office may have turned a blind eye in the past, the board’s verdict shows that every taxpayer gets treated the same under his watch. “We have worked hard to ensure every taxpayer is being assessed transfer taxes in a fair and consistent manner.”

How the diocese is going to pay up has yet to be determined, according to Ting. The easiest way would be for the diocese to “cut a check,” he told the Guardian. However, it’s expected that the diocese won’t be able to file an appeal until the transfer taxes are paid. And until it does, the Assessor’s Office will continue to charge interest.

But the victory was also a case of “win some, lose some.” Board of Equalization (BOE) chairwoman Betty T. Yee’s office announced on the same day announcing the BOE’s decision to lower property taxes by 0.237 percent. The release calls this a “negative inflation factor.” Translation: deflation.

The release states: “This is the first time such a broad scale reduction in property tax base year values has occurred. Since the passage of Proposition 13, the inflation factor has never before been negative, and in all but five years the annual adjustment has been capped at 2 percent.”

Ting said “going negative isn’t a positive thing.” His office calculates that the city could potentially lose an estimated $3 million in property revenue for 2010-2011. However, the numbers are still being crunched. One thing is for certain: everyone will see a decrease in their property taxes.

“Every property owner in San Francisco that didn’t get a reduction will get a reduction,” Ting said.

However, one property owner will be exempt from the lower rate—the Archdiocese of San Francisco. According to the Assessor’s Office, the church doesn’t have to pay yearly taxes on its properties because of its non-profit status, which the Transfer Tax Review Board’s decision doesn’t change.

Gay Governors Choose Wealth and Power Over Truth

Gay Governors usurp the teaching authority of the Church and become a Magisterium all of their own, but it proves that they are concerned about losing the Church's endorsement for their various governmental programs. The price for fighting the Church will be high both in this life and the next.

WJZ

RICHMOND, Va. (AP)The governors of Virginia and Maryland say it would be wrong for the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington to quit providing social services if the District of Columbia approves gay marriage.

Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley are both Catholics. They criticized the church's position on the district's gay marriage proposal Tuesday during a joint appearance on WTOP radio in Washington.

The D.C. council is expected to approve gay marriage next month. If that happens, the archdiocese says it may end contracts with the city to run homeless shelters and provide other social services.

Kaine and O'Malley both said they disagree with that response.

Bishop says Kennedy is 'erratic' and a Liar

Bishop Tobin is not only calling Kennedy a liar, but is saying he's mentally imbalanced as well. He's careful not to suggest that this reflects on his fitness for office and leaves that up to the voters, however.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –– Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas J. Tobin on Monday said Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy has shown “increasingly erratic and unpredictable behavior” during their escalating dispute, but said he was “not at all” referring to the congressman’s well-publicized mental-health issues.

Kennedy
The bishop also said he was not suggesting that Kennedy was unfit for office. He said he was “not familiar” or only “generally familiar” with mental-health and drug-addiction problems Kennedy has openly acknowledged and sought treatment for — most recently four weeks of addiction treatment at a medical facility in June.

“His fitness for office is nothing that I would ever comment on,” said Bishop Tobin. “I think that’s up to the voters to make that decision. But I am concerned about his statements and his reactions to some of these recent events. No, I’m concerned about him and I’m praying for him. As I said before, my door is always open, and I hope we can bring a good reconciliation to all this.”
